MTN Nigeria is the largest subsidiary of the MTN Group Limited mobile operator group.  The company business became profitable within six months.  Some of its highlights include:


  • Rolled out >2,000 GSM sites in 3 years with US$2.2bill project budget;
  • Raised US$595 million syndicated bankloans in three stages with MTN HQ;
  • Maintained 48% marketshare, brand ranked #1 ahead of CocaCola;
  • Led invention of Y’ello brand strategy & execution which was adopted by MTN Group‐wide in 2003/4;
  • Grew employee base from 250 to 2,000 in 3 1⁄2 years;
  • March 2005, Citibank SmithBarney valued MTN Nigeria at US$4.1billion, a multiple of 14 times the valuation of November 2001;
  • Started MTN Foundation corporate social responsibility program, including the village‐based microfinance “Oghene Lady” scheme;
